Denmark has intensified security measures in Greenland after a Danish newspaper reported that the United States quietly sought sensitive information on the island’s military bases, airfields and critical infrastructure without Copenhagen’s formal consent. Berlingske, citing leaked Defence Ministry documents, said Washington bypassed Danish foreign and defence channels in 2025 by directly approaching contacts in Greenland.
Danish authorities were alerted to the outreach, prompting concern within the security establishment. The developments come as European countries reaffirm Greenland’s sovereignty and deploy forces to strengthen NATO’s Arctic posture amid rising geopolitical competition.
