Macron’s new Prime Minister, Sébastien Lecornu, quit within hours — the shortest government in French history. Macron still has no majority and refuses to work with Marine Le Pen’s Rassemblement National, which crushed him in the European elections.
Emmanuel Macron’s presidency is collapsing under the weight of his own hubris. The French budget is in tatters, debt is soaring, and the country is paralysed by a political stalemate of his own making.
In this exclusive interview, Jacob Reynolds speaks to Thierry Mariani, Member of the European Parliament for Rassemblement National and major figure in French politics, about the crisis gripping France and why Macron’s refusal to work with Marine Le Pen’s rising movement has brought the country to the brink.
Since dissolving parliament, Macron’s centrist bloc has been trapped between Mélenchon’s far left and Le Pen’s patriotic right. His self-imposed “cordon sanitaire” against the RN has paralysed France.
Thierry Mariani says there are only two options:
1️⃣ Call new elections; or
2️⃣ Macron resigns
