One year since Trump’s return – why is he polling so badly?

President Donald Trump is marking the first anniversary of his return to the White House today at a highly fraught moment with escalating crises both at home and on the world stage.

One year after he was inaugurated for a second time, half of U.S. voters believe Trump has made the economy worse, while 35 percent say he has improved it, according to a Wall Street Journal poll.

Meanwhile, 58 percent of voters say Trump’s first year back in office was a failure, according to a recent CNN survey.

Trump’s relationship with European allies has deteriorated in recent days after he threatened to impose steep tariffs unless they support his plan to acquire Greenland, which he insists the U.S. needs in the interests of national security.

Shelagh Fogarty is joined by Mike Nellis, Democratic strategist and former Senior Advisor to Kamala Harris to discuss the anniversary.
