The US announced an $11 billion arms package for Taiwan, including HIMARS rocket systems, howitzers, anti-tank missiles and drones, marking one of the island’s largest weapons deals, Taipei said. Beijing condemned the move as “dangerous,” accusing Washington of violating the One China policy and escalating tensions in the Taiwan Strait.
The sale follows Taiwan’s vow to boost defence spending above 3% of GDP next year. Japan and Britain voiced concerns over China’s recent military activity, while Beijing criticised Tokyo’s radar deployment on Okinawa as provocative and destabilising.
