Vladimir Putin has ordered the creation of a sweeping nationwide plan to roll out artificial intelligence across all sectors of Russia’s economy by 2030. Speaking on the rapid evolution of AI, Putin warned that the country’s technological sovereignty and even state survival could depend on keeping pace with global developments.
The plan calls for the deployment of AI in industries ranging from manufacturing and logistics to healthcare, education, defence and public administration. Emphasising the importance of domestic innovation, Putin stressed the need for Russia to develop its own advanced language models and AI systems to ensure security, independence and global competitiveness.
He also highlighted the growing capabilities of AI agents, noting their increasing autonomy in planning, decision-making and interaction with the real world. The Russian government is now working on a legal framework to accelerate AI adoption without slowing innovation, while officials will be required to present public, results-driven reports on implementation progress.
