Swiss Scientists Create Computers Made from Living Brain Cells

Scientists in Switzerland are growing tiny human brain cells in petri dishes to create “wetware” — living biological computers that could outperform traditional AI chips. These lab-grown mini-brains, called organoids, are made from human stem cells and can fire real neural signals, using far less energy than silicon processors. From powering robots at the University of Bristol to aiding Alzheimer’s research at Johns Hopkins, biocomputing is merging neuroscience and tech innovation. While these organoids aren’t conscious, researchers say they could revolutionise AI efficiency and deepen our understanding of the human brain.
