European Union has pushed back against a U.S. threat to restrict diesel exports, as Washington pressures European countries to release emergency fuel reserves in an effort to bring down soaring prices. The Trump administration has urged France and Germany to draw down their diesel stockpiles, with reports saying the US could restrict diesel exports if Europe does not release more fuel.
But Brussels is pushing back. European Commission spokesperson Anna-Kaisa Itkonen said the EU “fully” rejects any diesel export ban, warning that such a move would hurt cooperation and undermine trust between the two sides.
