Ukraine strikes Russian shadow fleet ships in Black Sea

Ukrainian forces said they struck 159 vessels linked to Russia’s so-called shadow fleet during a 12-day drone operation in the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov. The vessels were targeted between July 6 and July 17 as part of Operation Muh-La-ChKa, including 117 vessels in the Sea of Azov and 42 in the Black Sea. Unmanned Systems Forces Commander Robert “Madyar” Brovdi said they struck 12 vessels in the Black Sea on Friday alone, including nine dry cargo ships, one tanker, one gas carrier and one tugboat. Brovdi said the operation aimed to disrupt the transportation of oil, fuel and other cargo used to circumvent international sanctions, and sought to disable the vessels without breaching their hulls or causing oil spills.
Ukraine also reported striking 11 vessels linked to Russia’s shadow fleet in the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov during the previous night.
