Why did the military officers seize control of one of the poorest countries in the world?
A group of army officers in Guinea-Bissau have announced that they have seized power and arrested President Umaro Sissoco Embalo. A spokesman for the junta said that the military had closed the borders, imposed a curfew and suspended all institutions in the Republic of Guinea-Bissau. This comes a day before the country was due to announce the results of a closely contested presidential election.
