Are You Going to Vote? Ireland 1987

Young voters are disillusioned with Politics

Although Northern Ireland and the Anglo Irish Agreement figured in the election debates, the main issues for the large population of youth were unemployment and emigration.

A vox pop for ‘Evening Extra’ catches the mood of young voters who are mainly concerned with unemployment and emigration. Reporter Shay Healy talks to young people in St Stephen’s Green park and on Grafton Street in Dublin city centre.

The general consensus is that the young voters are disillusioned with politics and politicians who appear unable or unwilling to solve Ireland’s problems.
