Darragh O’Brien Claims Housing is Not in a “State of Emergency”

State of Emergency

Claire Brock is joined by Minister for Housing Darragh O’Brien & Sinn Féin TD Eoin Ó Broin.

Claire Brock asks Minister O’Brien if he believes that we are in a housing emergency, as the word crisis diminishes the scale of the man-made situation we find ourselves in.

He tells her that he does not think that we are in a housing emergency. He calls for more supply in order to tackle increased homeless figures.

“I am looking to activate emergency planning to deliver more, and modular homes at scale, which by the way, I’m not opposed to in any way, shape or form.”

Eoin Ó Broin interjects telling him, “you’ve been the Minister for two and a half years. You haven’t used emergency planning powers, you haven’t taken action on the vacancy and you haven’t used high-grade modular technology to put homes in the ground.”

Ó Broin hits back at the Minister’s opinion on the housing crisis.

“It is not only an emergency, it is an absolute catastrophe!”
